EuroParcs Markermeer

The Battle of the Zuiderzee was a crucial naval victory during the Dutch Revolt. Dutch rebels known as the Watergeuzen defeated a much larger Spanish fleet, helping secure control of important waterways.

Standing beside the former Zuiderzee near Amsterdam, Muiderslot is one of the Netherlands' most famous medieval castles. Built in the 13th century by Count Floris V, the fortress was designed to control an important trade route and defend the mouth of the River Vecht.

The Afsluitdijk is one of the Netherlands' greatest engineering achievements. Completed in 1932, this enormous barrier transformed the Zuiderzee into the freshwater IJsselmeer.
