The Alcazaba of Almería is one of Spain's largest Muslim fortresses and a spectacular reminder of the power of the medieval Islamic kingdom of Al-Andalus. Built in the 10th century under Caliph Abd al-Rahman III, it protected one of the most important ports in the region.
