The Heuneburg is one of the most important Iron Age archaeological sites in Europe. Dating back more than 2,500 years, this fortified Celtic settlement was a major trading centre connected with the wider Mediterranean world.

Rising dramatically above the Swabian Alps, Hohenzollern Castle looks like something from a medieval storybook. Although the current castle was rebuilt in the 19th century, it stands on the site of earlier fortresses connected to the powerful Hohenzollern dynasty, which produced German emperors and important rulers.

Often called the "fairytale castle of Württemberg", Lichtenstein Castle sits dramatically on a cliff edge overlooking the Echaz Valley. Built in the 19th century on the foundations of a medieval fortress, it was inspired by romantic ideas of knights and chivalry.
