Located within the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage Site, Knowth is one of Ireland's most impressive prehistoric monuments. Built around the same period as Newgrange, it contains the largest collection of megalithic art in Western Europe. The site consists of a huge central passage tomb surrounded by more than a dozen smaller satellite monuments. The carved stones feature spirals, circles and abstract designs whose meanings remain partly mysterious. Guided tours provide fascinating insights into Neolithic life and beliefs, and the wider landscape is excellent for walkers and cyclists exploring Ireland's ancient east.
