The GR10 traces the French side of the Pyrenees from Hendaye on the Atlantic to Banyuls-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean, staying mostly below the main watershed ridge (unlike the higher-level HRP) but still crossing serious mountain terrain through the Basque country, Béarn, and Catalan Pyrenees.

Routekaart

Terrein

Demanding mountain walking with big daily ascent and descent totals, though generally on established paths rather than the pathless high-level alternative. Waymarked with red-and-white GR flashes; snow can linger on higher passes into early summer.

Tips

Most walkers take 7–8 weeks for the full traverse, though many do it in shorter regional sections — the Basque and Ariège stretches are popular standalone trips. Gîtes d'étape (walkers' hostels) are spaced conveniently along most of the route, so full camping gear usually isn't necessary.
