The Danube Cycle Route (Donauradweg) follows the Danube from Donaueschingen in the Black Forest through Ulm, Regensburg and the Danube Gorge to Passau on the Austrian border — the original and still most popular section of the much longer EuroVelo 6 route along the whole river.

Terreno

Flat, well-surfaced dedicated cycle paths follow the river almost the entire way, with the Danube Gorge (Weltenburg to Kelheim) offering the most dramatic scenery for the least effort. One of the most beginner-friendly long-distance cycle routes in Europe.

Consejos

The Passau-to-Vienna continuation is even more popular than this German section if you want to extend the trip. Bike hire, luggage transfer and bike-friendly trains are all well established along the route, making it an easy choice for a first cycle-touring trip.
